The 1999-2000 Miami Heat season is the 12th season of the Miami Heat in the National Basketball Association (NBA).[1] The Heat played the first two months of the season at the Miami Arena, then moved into the American Airlines Arena in January. The Heat finished first in the Atlantic Division with a 52-30 record. Alonzo Mourning was named Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive year. In the first round of the playoffs, they swept the Detroit Pistons in three straight games. In the semifinals, they faced the New York Knicks for the fourth consecutive year. After taking a 3-2 lead, the Knicks would win Game 6 by two points, then beat the Heat 83-82 in Game 7 at Miami.
