Adrien de Valois

Adrien de Valois, sometimes Adrien Valois, lord of La Mare (Latin: Hadrianus Valesius; 14 January 1607 in Paris – 2 July 1692), was a French historian, historiographer and poet.

Biography

Brother of Henri Valois, he followed his example and devoted himself to the history of France. He was appointed historiographer of the king in 1664.

His son, Charles de Valois de La Mare (1671-1747), member of the Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres as a pupil in 1705, associate in 1711 and pensionnaire he published under the title of Valesiana a collection of historical and critical remarks of his father, and researches on the Amphictyons and on the sacred wars of Greece.
