Alfonso Almeida

Alfonso Almeida Saenz (born 12 October 1966) is a chess International Master from Mexico. On the July 2009 FIDE rating list he has an Elo rating of 2378, making him the number nine Mexican chess player. His peak rating was 2429 in April 2007. In his 2015 season he has 7 MVP points and a 2735 performance rating.[1]

Alfonso graduated from the BBA program (Management)at the University of Texas Brownsville (UTB) in Dec. 2010, and he graduated from the college of education earning his M.Ed.degree with concentration in Educational Technology in Aug. 2012. Alfonso is a candidate to Ed.D. at Texas Tech University (Educational and Instructional Technology). He presented research about "Chess and E-Learning" at the ATS Conference at University of Texas El Paso (Oct. 2014) and at the E-Learn 2014, World Conference on E-Learning at New Orleans,Louisiana 2014. Alfonso recently was hired by the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, and he works with the chess program. Alfonso designed new chess courses for the chess academy. By Fall 2015, the UTRGV-Chess academy will launch the first two face-to-face chess courses for players rated 1300-1850 USCF. After instruction students will learn chess skills at the chess expert level,2000-2100 USCF.
