Anthony Morgan of Freshwater

Major Anthony Morgan (died 1729) of Freshwater, Isle of Wight was an English army officer, a Lieutenant-Governor of the Isle of Wight, and a Member of Parliament.

Biography

Morgan was an army officer in the Life Guards rising from the rank of Lieutenant to Senior Major. Lieutenant-Governor of the Isle of Wight from 1702–1710 and again from 1715 until his death. He was also governor of Cowes Castle from 1715 until his death in 1729 and a Member of Parliament for Yarmouth (1695 – 1710 and 12 April 1717 – 1727), Newport (1715 – 12 April 1717), and Lymington (1727 – 19 April 1729).[1]

Family

Morgan married Catherine, daughter and heir of Thomas Urry of Freshwater, by 1691. They had six sons and a daughter. On his death he disinherited his eldest son, leaving his estate to his five younger sons.[1]
