The northern spiny softshell turtle (Apalone spinifera hartwegi ) is a subspecies of soft-shelled turtle native to the western United States, from Arkansas to California.

Etymology

The subpecific name, hartwegi, is in honor of Dr. Norman Edouard Hartweg (1904-1964), who was a specialist in turtles and professor of zoology at the University of Michigan.[1][2]
