Bhavnagar State was a princely state in Saurashtra during the British Raj. Its last ruler signed the accession to the Indian Union on 15 February 1948.[1]
The Bhavnagar State Railway was named after this state.
Contents
History
The predecessor state named Sejakpur, now Ranpur, was founded in 1194. In 1723 the city of Bhavnagar was founded by Bhavsinhji Gohil and the state was named after it. In 1807 Bhavnagar State became a British protectorate.[2]
The Nilambag Palace of the former rulers of Bhavnagar is now a Heritage Hotel.
