Bland County was officially formed in 1861; however the township first recorded an Indian raid on the house of Adam Harman in 1749 whose furs and skins were stolen. On July 8, 1755 a party of Shawnees attacked the Draper's Meadow settlement and killed, wounded or captured everyone there as follows: Colonel James Patton, Mrs. George Draper, Casper Barrier and a child of John Draper. Killed were Mrs. John Draper and James Cull. Captured were Mrs. Mary Ingles, her two sons Thomas, age four and George, age three as well as Henry Lenards.
