Charles Selwyn

Charles Selwyn (1689 - 9 June 1749) of West Sheen, Surrey, was an English Member of Parliament (MP).[1]
He was a younger son of Lt.-Gen. William Selwyn, MP, of Matson, Gloucestershire, who died in 1702 whilst Governor of Jamaica. His elder brother was John Selwyn, MP.
He was commissioned into the Army as a young child in 1692, rising to the rank of Major. He was then gentleman usher to the Princess of Wales (1714-27} and equerry to the Queen (1727-37). He was elected Mayor of Gloucester for 1736.
He was elected MP for Mitchell in 1722–27, Gloucester in 1728–34 and for Ludgershall in 1741–47.
He married twice; firstly Mary Cook, the widow of William Houblon and secondly Anna Maria, the daughter of Thomas Hyde and widow of John Geddes. He had no children by either wife.
