Congolese people in France consist of migrants from Democratic Republic of the Congo and Republic of the Congo and their descendants living and working in France.

History

The first Congolese people in France arrived later than the first Black African immigrants. Indeed, people from the Senegal River Valley (Senegal, Mali, Mauritania, Guinea) who arrived in the 1960s. People from Central Africa (from Cameroon and Congo, mostly), arrived in the 1970s.[1] Most of them come for work or familial reunification, but there is also a big number of Congolese people who come with the statute of political asylum.[2]
