Eccles Road railway station is a rural railway station in the English county of Norfolk. It is served by local services operated by East Midlands Trains and Abellio Greater Anglia on the Breckland Line from Norwich to Peterborough and Cambridge. The station is unstaffed and has two platforms adjacent to a level crossing. The wooden level crossing gates used to be opened and closed manually by the Signaller in the local signal box. However, in December 2012 the signal box was closed and the crossing was renewed with full barriers controlled from Cambridge PSB. The barriers are camera monitored in line with modern standards. The redundant signal box stands across the road from the west bound platform, currently (2014) this due for demolition when the barriers are replaced in 2017.

The station takes its name from the now abandoned original village of Eccles that was located a mile to the south of the station. The church, Eccles St Mary, still stands and is one of 124 existing round-tower churches in Norfolk. In the 1990s, a new village was built immediately adjacent to the station, and this now bears the names of Eccles. This makes the 'Road' in the station name an anachronism.

The station is situated in the civil parish of Quidenham, about 2 miles (3 km) north of the village of Quidenham, and 1 mile (1.5 km) north-east of Snetterton Motor Racing Circuit.[1]

Service

Currently, Eccles Road sees six services per day in each direction. Two to Cambridge operated by Abellio Greater Anglia, one to Liverpool Lime Street operated by East Midland Trains and in the other direction there is three to Norwich, two operated by Abellio Greater Anglia and the other by East Midlands Trains.

There is no Sunday service.

A normal Monday to Friday service operates on most Bank Holidays.
