Summary

The original Barton aqueduct over the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/river_Irwell" class="extiw" title="en:river Irwell">river Irwell</a> in <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_Manchester" class="extiw" title="en:Greater Manchester">Greater Manchester</a> taken shortly before its demolition in 1891. It was designed and constructed by <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Gilbert_(agent)" class="extiw" title="en:John Gilbert (agent)">John Gilbert</a> and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Brindley" class="extiw" title="en:James Brindley">James Brindley</a> for the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_Egerton,_3rd_Duke_of_Bridgewater" class="extiw" title="en:Francis Egerton, 3rd Duke of Bridgewater">Duke of Bridgewater</a>
