Summary
Sir Winston Churchill's Funeral Train passing Clapham Junction.
View northward, from the Waterloo end of the ex-LSW Waterloo - Woking and the West main line platforms, over to the Windsor Lines at Clapham Junction. The train ran from Waterloo to Handborugh via Reading South and Oxford, hauled by SR Bulleid Light Pacific No. 34051 'Winston Churchill'. This locomotive was built in 12/46 as No. 21C151 and after withdrawal in 9/65 was saved and preserved in the National Collection at York: for the Funeral it carried an unique disc headcode representing 'V for Victory'. The hearse vehicle of the seven-coach Pullman train conveyed the coffin - Sir Winston having died on 24/1/65 then lain in state. [Mid-winter weather precluded my obtaining a good photograph].
