Other information

Image taken after 1919, when the wooden covered bridge that preceded this more modern bridge was destroyed by fire. While this is probably public domain in the US (either published before 1923 or life of author plus 70 years), there is no definite proof, hence the fair use claim.

Article

Jay Street Bridge

Purpose of use

To illustrate the appearance of the "iron bridge", which was the second Jay Street Bridge. It was built after the first wooden covered bridge burnt in 1919 and was torn down for its replacement in 1986.

Replaceable?

No, this brdige no longer exists nad no log rafts like this have been made on the West Branch Susquehanna River for many decades, and there is almost no virgin timber like this left in Pennsylvania. This is a unique image.
