Summary
Illustration of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/right_hand_rule" class="extiw" title="w:right hand rule">right hand rule</a> a process for determining the direction of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/magnetic_field" class="extiw" title="w:magnetic field">magnetic field</a> created by an <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/electric_current" class="extiw" title="w:electric current">electric current</a> passing through a wire. If the conductor is grasped by the right hand so the thumb points in the direction of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/conventional_current" class="extiw" title="w:conventional current">conventional current</a> (flow of positive charge) in the wire, the fingers circling the wire will point in the direction of the magnetic field lines.
