Summary

A green plaque on a hotel on the Strand in London. In the former Hotel Cecil, the Royal Air Force was formed, and its first headquarters were here.

The RAF was formed more than 90 years ago in 1918, in the final year of the First World War.

This plaque was unveiled last year in 2008, on the 90th anniversary of the RAF's formation.

It is now the Shell-Mex House (which was built in 1930-31 on the site of the Hotel Cecil).
