The hyperboloid <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Shukhov_Oka_Towers" title="Category:Shukhov Oka Towers">Shukhov Oka Towers</a>, on the west bank of the Oka River in central <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Russia" class="mw-redirect" title="Russia">Russia</a>.

  • The 1929 Soviet Union era <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Lattice_steel_pylons" title="Category:Lattice steel pylons">lattice steel electricity pylons</a> allowed transmission lines to cross the Oka River, and they were designed and engineered by the great Russian scientist Vladimir Shukhov (1853-1939).
  • The remaining one of the two is on the west bank of the <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Oka_River" title="Category:Oka River">Oka River</a> near Dzerzhinsk, in Nizhniy Novgorod Oblast (east tower illegally demolished for scrap steel—2005). The west tower is the world’s only surviving hyperboloid electricity pylon.
