Summary
This Diesel electric locomotive manufactured by the then General Motors Diesel Division in London, Ontario, Canada was imported in 1954 with Canadian aid under the Colombo Plan.
A total of 14 similar DE locomotives were delivered in several batches till 1966. They were powered by EMD 12-567C prime-movers. 12 of them were named after the 12 Canadian provinces and this Loco (No. 570) bears the name ALBERTA. Most of them are in active service even today.
These are classified as Class M2 by the Sri Lankan Railways.
