It formerly belonged to the church of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Olave,_Southwark" class="extiw" title="en:St Olave, Southwark">St Olave, Southwark</a>. It is dated 1674 and is made of wood. The sword rests in other churches in the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_London" class="extiw" title="en:City of London">City of London</a> are almost always of iron.

The Bridge House, which was the administrative and maintenance centre of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Bridge" class="extiw" title="en:London Bridge">Old London Bridge</a>, was located on the south bank of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_Thames" class="extiw" title="en:River Thames">River Thames</a>, near the site of St Olave's.
