Summary
The Wright J-5 Whirlwind aircraft engine. Developed by the Wright Aeronautical Corporation from it's Lawrance J-1 engine, the J-5 produced 220 horsepower and was the first engine to have sodium-cooled exhaust valves and to be self-lubricating. These innovations greatly increased its reliability. The J-5 won the prestigious Collier Trophy for 1927.
