Garden Island (Huon River)
Garden Island is a small stony island that is part of the Partridge Island Group, lying close to the south-eastern coast of Tasmania, Australia, in the D'Entrecasteaux Channel between Bruny Island and the mainland.[1]
Flora and fauna
Much of the island is covered with eucalypt forest.[2]
Names and other islands
Garden Island, Tasmania is an island along the Huon River, but Garden Island has become the pseudonym for both Green Island,[3] Smooth Island as well as one of the islands in within the Great Lake (Tasmania).[4]
Gardners Island, in the Huon River, was named by the Rev R. Knopwood in 1804. It is shown under that name in the 1832 map, while a Garden or Smooth Island appears at the entrance of Norfolk Bay. [5]=
