Ghassan Shakaa (Arabic: غسان الشكعة‎‎, Ghassān Shak’ā) (born 1943) is the mayor of Nablus since October 2012,[1] one of the largest cities in the West Bank. Another former Nablus mayor, Bassam Shaka, is his uncle. Shakaa was appointed to his position by Yasser Arafat.[2][not in citation given] His brother was assassinated by a still unknown group. Shakaa published an open letter in which he called for the Palestinian National Authority to restore order to his politically divided city.[3]
