2014–2015: UEFA Euro 16 Qualification

On July 2014, after the end of the world cup, head coach Fernando Santos resigned and Claudio Ranieri was hired as his replacement.

Greece started their EURO 2016 qualification campaign on September 7, in Group F. On November 14, 2014, Greece lost at home 1-0 to Faroe Islands, a black night in the history of Greek Football. That was the last game with Ranieri as head coach as he was sacked after failing to win in 4 matches.
On February 2015, Sergio Markarián was appointed as the new Head Coach although his arrival did not change much, with Greece again being defeated by the Faroe Islands. Markarian was told to leave the team during the summer of 2015. Kostas Tsanas who was the Greece-U21 coach, was the provisional head coach of greek national team until the end of the qualification stage.

Greece finished in bottom place in their Euro Qualifying group, earning just one victory against Hungary in the final round, and failing to qualify for the tournament.
