The Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota is one of the country's top-ranked professional public policy and planning schools. The school is noted for equipping students to play key roles in public life at the local, state, national, and global level and offers six distinctive master's degrees, a doctoral degree, and five certificate programs.

The Humphrey School ranks among the top 15 professional schools of public affairs at public universities in the country.[1] Best Value Schools ranks Humphrey School 8 out of 50 most innovative public policy schools in the U.S.[2] The school is named after Hubert H. Humphrey, former Vice President of the United States and Presidential candidate. The School's primary campus is located on the West Bank of the University of Minnesota, which is also home to other top-ranking schools including the University of Minnesota Law School and Carlson School of Management in Minneapolis, MN. The Humphrey School program concentration in nonprofit management ranks third in the United States.[3] The Humphrey School is accredited by the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration NASPAA.[4]

History

The University of Minnesota's graduate program for public policy was founded on the East Bank campus in 1938 as the Public Administration Center. In 1968, it achieved autonomy as a graduate school within the university and became the School of Public Affairs. The School was replaced in 1977 with the founding of the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs, named to honor former Vice President Hubert Humphrey for his contributions to improving the well-being of humanity. It was renamed the Humphrey School of Public Affairs in 2011 to better reflect its academic mission.[5]
