Idexx Laboratories, Inc. (NASDAQIDXX) is a multinational corporation engaged in the development, manufacture, and distribution of products and services for the companion animal veterinary, livestock and poultry, water testing, and dairy markets. Incorporated in 1983 and headquartered in Westbrook, Maine, and EMEA in Hoofddorp, Netherlands, Idexx conducts operations through 60 locations around the world, and employs approximately 5,000 people in full-and part-time positions. There are mainly three segments in the company, namely Companion Animal Group, Water, and Livestock and Poultry Diagnostics. In addition, the company also engages in SNAP tests to detect antibiotic drug-residue in milk and OPTI point-of-care analyzers to measure electrolytes, blood gases, acid-base balance and other parameters. In November 2011, the Company acquired the research and diagnostic laboratory (RADIL) business of the College of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Missouri. In August 2013, the company acquired Madasa do Brasil Ltda.[1][2]

Products & Services

Companion Animal Group

The Companion Animal Group ("CAG") provides in-clinic laboratory analyzers for companion animals. Analyzers measure blood cell counts as well as levels of certain enzymes in blood or urine for the purpose of monitoring health conditions. Major products of this segment are the Catalyst Dx Chemistry Analyzer and the VetTest Chemistry Analyzer, Symmetric dimethylarginine (SDMA),[3] ProCyte Dx Hematology Analyzer, the LaserCyte Hematology Analyzer, the IDEXX VetAutoread Hematology Analyzer, the SNAPshot Dx analyzer and so on, among other laboratory equipment and analytical services. Other areas of the CAG division are centered on diagnostic imaging and veterinary practice management software systems, including the flagship program Cornerstone, as well as DVMax (acquired from Sneakers[disambiguation needed] in late 2012 [1]) and several legacy practice management software systems.

Water testing

The Water segment provides products to measure microbiological parameters in water. Products of this segment include the Colilert, Colilert-18 and Colisure tests.

Livestock and Poultry Diagnostics

The Livestock and Poultry Diagnostics division provides products to detect diseases in livestock and poultry. Products of this segment include tests for Avian Infuenza (AI), Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus (BVDV), Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) and Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE or mad cow disease).[4]
