Le Matin (literally "The Morning") is a Swiss French-language daily newspaper published by Edipresse in Lausanne, Switzerland.

History and profile

The newspaper was created in 1972 when Le Tribune de Lausanne was renamed as Le Matin.[1] The paper is published in tabloid-format. Between 31 October 2005 and 25 September 2009, Edipresse also published Le Matin Bleu, a free daily newspaper distributed in the most-populated areas of Romandy. However, despite the similar names between the new newspapers, they were edited independently. Le Matin Bleu ceased publication because of the merger of Edipresse with Tamedia, publisher of the competing 20 Minutes.

In 1997 Le Matin had a circulation of 67,522 copies.[2] The same year the circulation of Le Matin dimanche, its Sunday edition, was 226, 465 copies.[2] The 2006 circulation of Le Matin was 76,194 copies.[3] Its Sunday supplement Le Matin dimanche had a circulation of 215,024 in 2006.[3] In 2009 Le Matin's circulation was 58,849 copies.[4]
