A light deity is a god or goddess in mythology associated with light. The following is a list of light deities in various mythologies.

Celtic mythology

  • Belenus – a sun god associated with Apollo
  • Belisama – goddess of lakes and rivers, fire, crafts, and light

Egyptian mythology

  • Horus – god of the sky and kingship, also the god of light in his form Her-ur (Horus the Elder)

Seth - god of the sun at sunset, also the god of chaos and storms

Greek mythology

  • Aether – primarily associated with upper air but associated with light in Hesiod's Theogony
  • Apollo – god of music, poetry, art, oracles, archery, plague, medicine, sun, light, and knowledge
  • Hyperion – a Titan associated with watchfulness, wisdom, and light; sometimes conflated with his son Helios
  • Theia - Titaness of sight and the shining light of the clear blue sky. She is the consort of Hyperion, and mother of Helios, Selene, and Eos

Māori mythology

  • Ao (mythology) – the personification of light and the ordinary world

Norse mythology

  • Freyr – god of sunshine, peace, fertility, prosperity and associated with the Ljósálfar (Light Elves)
  • Baldr – god associated with love, peace and forgiveness, of justice, light, and purity
  • Heimdallr – god of wisdom and light
