M.O ("M point O") are an English female trio consisting of members Annie Ashcroft, Frankee Connolly and Nadine Samuels. The girl band was formed in 2012 by the members themselves, after their previous groups Mini Viva and Duchess had disbanded.[1] In early 2014 they released their debut single "For A Minute", which was followed up by "Dance On My Own" in late 2014.[2] They are currently signed on Polydor.[3]

Career

Frankee Connolly was a part of Mini Viva until the duo's split in 2010, whereas Samuels and Ashcroft were both members of the girl band Duchess until 2012.[4][5] M.O was formed in late 2012, after Connolly had met Samuels and Ashcroft at music industry events.[6] The group's name originated from Drake’s "The Motto", which features the line "That’s my M.O add a B to that", and is short for Modus Operandi.[7] M.O's initial aim was to bring old school 90s music back, naming J.Lo and TLC as an inspiration amongst others.[6][8]

M.O made their debut as a band with a remix of Brandy and Monica's "The Boy Is Mine" on the YouTube channel SB.TV in 2012.[9] At this point they received positive feedback from the music industry and were championed by the likes of Ed Sheeran.[10] They followed up their debut on YouTube with their first promotional single "Wait Your Turn", which was followed by other releases in 2013, including "Ain’t Got Time" and "Hot".[11]

In 2014 they announced that the Jess Glynne co-written track "For A Minute" would be the debut single from their forthcoming album, which is expected to be released in 2015.[11][12] "For A Minute" was released in April 2014 and entered the UK Indie Charts at number 6.[13]

In May 2014 they joined Little Mix as the main support act on their sold out Salute Tour, and performed at numerous festivals in the UK, including Wireless festival.[14][15] In August 2014 they released their second single "Dance On My Own", which entered the Official Singles Sales Chart at number 49, making it M.O's most successful single to date.[16][17]

The group was nominated for a MOBO award in the Best Newcomer category in 2014.[18]

The single "Preach", which was co-written by Starsmith and Joel Compass, was released in May 2015.[19][20]

In 2015, they signed a record deal with Polydor Records. They released an EP entitled 'Good Friends' in early 2016, which preceded their fourth single 'Who Do You Think Of.'
