Mid Cheshire College is a further education college. Its main campus is in the village of Hartford, Cheshire. Richard Hollywood is the college principal. He joined the college in 2006 as Assistance Principal in charge of Art & Design, before being promoted to Vice-Principal in 2010. The college performed exceptionally well in its last Ofsted inspection in 2008, graded as outstanding / Grade 1 in all areas. The college has also been awarded LSIS Beacon status,[1] the highest accolade in the FE sector. The college has approximately 9,000 students.

Courses

The college offers a wide variety of academic and vocational courses including BTEC National Diplomas, BTEC First Diplomas and National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ). Subjects include Art & Design, Beauty Therapy, Hospitality & Catering, Public Services and Construction. The college also offers Foundation Degrees accredited by the University of Chester and the Manchester Metropolitan University. Subjects include Business, Fashion, ICT, Music Technology and Graphic Design. The college promotes continuing education, too, and offers a number of adult courses, and return-to-work and study courses. The college also awards Access to Higher Education Diplomas, which enable adults with no or few qualifications the opportunity to go on to study at university.

Campuses

The site has two main sites:

  • Hartford campus, the main campus, located in Hartford, offers an extensive range of courses including Art & Design, Performing Arts, Photography, Fashion, Engineering, Construction, Motor Vehicle, Business, ICT and Travel & Tourism;

and;

  • Winsford campus, the main centre for health and social care, child care, adult learning, and public uniformed services, situated in the centre of Winsford.

Redevelopment

The college is currently undergoing a process of redevelopment with new buildings being erected to replace old and outdated ones. So far the college has opened a new £3.5m Arts and Creative Media Building at the Hartford Campus(October 2008) and a new £10m campus in the town of Winsford (September 2010). The College now also boasts a new £7.5m building housing facilities for the teaching of Sport, Fashion, Photography, Dance, Media, Music and the Performing Arts.
