Mike Fernandez
Miguel Benito "Mike" Fernandez[1][2] is an American health care industry businessman. He is the founder of MBF Healthcare Partners, a private equity firm founded in 2005 in Coral Gables, Florida.[3][4] Fernandez is a major Republican donor.[5][6]

Early life and education
Fernandez immigrated to New York[2] from Cuba in 1964 at the age of 12.[1] He does not have a college degree[7] but briefly attended Northern Virginia Community College.[8][9]
Career
In 1975, after serving in the United States Army, Fernandez worked in insurance sales.[10][11]
In 2005, he sold CarePlus Health Plans, a company he founded, to Humana,[12][13][14] and founded MBF Healthcare Partners, a private equity firm in Coral Gables.[15]
Charity and politics
His charity work includes a family foundation.[16]
In 2011, Fernandez donated $5 million to Miami Children's Hospital for a new trauma center, and $1 million to the Mourning Foundation in July 2014. In 2012, Fernandez donated $1 million to Restore Our Future, Mitt Romney's Super PAC.[17] Fernandez also hosted a fundraiser for Romney at Fernandez's home in Coral Gables, Florida.[18] In 2013, Fernandez donated $1 million to Florida Governor Rick Scott.[19] He was also a member of the finance committee for Governor Scott's re-election campaign.[20] Fernandez has spoken out against perceived political corruption of Miami officials relating to his proposal for a large American flag display on public land in the city.[21]
During the 2016 election cycle, Fernandez donated $3 million to Jeb Bush's Super PAC.[22][23][24] He was ranked one of "Newsmax's 50 Most Influential Latino Republicans" in 2016.[25]
Personal life
Fernandez, a millionaire,[26] owns the 4,000 acre Little River Plantation ranch near Havana, Florida outside Tallahassee and 25,000 acres of property in Alabama.[citation needed][27]
He is married with five children and lives in Florida.[26]
