The Edict to Repel Foreign Vessels (異国船打払令 Ikokusen Uchiharairei?) was a law passed by the Tokugawa Shogunate in 1825 to the effect that all foreign vessels should be driven away from Japanese waters.[1]
An example of the law being put into practice was the Morrison Incident of 1837, in which a merchant ship bearing Japanese citizens was fired upon.[2]
The law was repealed in 1842.
