Nanohaloarchaea is a class of archaea.
The reconstruction of two highly unusual archaeal genomes by de novo metagenomic assembly of multiple, deeply sequenced libraries via multi-locus phylogenetic analyses[clarification needed], from surface waters of Lake Tyrrell, a hypersaline lake in north-west Victoria, Australia, has led to the creation of a major novel euryarchaeal lineage, distantly related to halophilic archaea of class Halobacteria. In addition to their high abundance in Lake Tyrrell surface waters, there is a prevalence of Nanohaloarchaea in other hypersaline environments worldwide.[1][2]
Taxonomy
The currently accepted taxonomy is based on the List of Prokaryotic names with Standing in Nomenclature (LPSN)[3] and National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI).[4]
