Peter McMullin

Peter McMullin (born 25 April 1952) was the Mayor of Geelong in 2006 and Deputy Lord Mayor of Melbourne between 1996 and 1999. McMullin served as a Councillor of the City of Geelong since 2004 and served as a Councillor of the City of Melbourne from 1996 to 1999. He is also a member of the Australian Labor Party.

McMullin is the son and heir to Ian McMullin, millionaire and founder of Spotless, an ASX 200 company which specialises in cleaning, catering, facilities management and non-core business support to outsourcing markets in Australia, New Zealand and the US.

Melbourne City Council

McMullin was first elected to the City of Melbourne in 1996. He was later elected by the Councillors to become Melbourne's Deputy Lord Mayor.

In 2001, following the Victorian Government's dismissal of the Melbourne City Council and its subsequent reform, Peter McMullin moved to Geelong where he was subsequently elected to the Geelong City Council

Geelong City Council

With the support of Melbourne and former Geelong CEO Michael Malouf, Peter McMullin was elected to the City of Geelong Council in 2004 and subsequently Mayor of Geelong in 2005. Peter McMullin was Mayor of Geelong 2005-2006, and remained on the Council until 2008.

2004 Federal Election

McMullin, a long-standing member of the Labor Party, stood for pre-selection in the Federal Seat of Corangamite, winning local and central party support. At the Australian Federal Election in 2004, McMullin managed to secure a primary vote of 36.7% with a swing of 3.2% and a TPP vote of 44.7% to the Labor Party against Liberal Party Stewart McArthur on 55.3%.[1]

Peter McMullin renominated for ALP endorsement in 2007 for Corangamite but lost preslection to Darren Cheeseman, who went on to win the seat for the ALP in 2007.[2][3]

2008 Lord Mayor Candidacy

In October 2008, Peter McMullin announced his candidacy for Lord Mayor of Melbourne following John So's surprise decision to not contest for a third term in the November 2008 Elections.[4]

Positions since 2010

In 2010, Peter McMullin was elected President of the Victorian Employers Chamber Commerce and Industry (VECCI). He had served as Deputy President of VECCI between 2003 and 2010. He is President of the Geelong Art Gallery.

A practising lawyer since 1978, Peter McMullin served as the deputy president of the museums board of Victoria between 2000 and 2010. He was Chairman of the International Comedy Festival between 2000 and 2008.
