History

Qorvo was created on January 1, 2015, with the merger of TriQuint Semiconductor and RF Micro Devices (RFMD).[1] In June 2015, the new company became a component of the S&P 500, replacing tobacco company Lorillard.[4] At the time of joining the S&P 500, Qorvo was valued at $12 billion.[4]

Name

Pronounced "kor-vo," the name is intended to reflect the "core technologies and innovations" the companies plan to enable following their combination. The name's first syllable is meant to evoke "chorus" – people (TriQuint and RFMD) working in unison, as well as "core" technology. The second syllable, "vo," is meant to indicate voyage or travel through air or space.[5]
