Sir Robert Clarke, 2nd Baronet (1683 – November 1746)[1] was a British politician and lawyer.

Biography

He was the older son of Sir Samuel Clarke, 1st Baronet and his wife Mary Thompson, daughter of Robert Thompson.[2] In 1719, he succeeded his father as baronet.[3] He was called to the bar by Gray's Inn in 1701.[4] Clarke entered the British House of Commons in 1717, sitting as Member of Parliament (MP) for Cambridgeshire until 1722.[5]

Family

Clarke married Mary Barnardiston, only daughter of Arthur Barnardiston, and had by her ten children.[2] Clarke died in 1746 and was succeeded in the baronetcy successively by his sons Samuel and Robert.[2] After the death of his last surviving son Arthur, the sixth baronet, the title became extinct.[3]
