Stevie "The Professional Regurgitator" Starr is a Scottish performance artist known for being a professional regurgitator.[1] In his act, he swallows various items, such as coins, lightbulbs, balloons, nails, billiard balls, dry sugar and goldfish, and then regurgitates them. He has never described exactly how this is done, and the implausibility of some of his regurgitations have led some to believe that he is an illusionist. Starr has a busy international touring schedule for his longer solo act. He has performed on the same bill as comedian John Oliver, who talked about Stevie's act as part of a Late Show with Jimmy Fallon web exclusive segment called "Would You Rather: John Oliver".

Got Talent appearances (2010-2015)

Britain's Got Talent

Audition

In April 2010, Starr auditioned for the fourth series of the British version. During his audition, he was swallowing numbered coins and a billiard ball and then regurgitating them on demand and in order. He progressed to the semi-finals.[2]

Semi-finals

In May 2010, during the first semi-final episode of the series, he swallowed Amanda Holden's engagement ring, followed by a locked padlock and its key. He then regurgitated the padlock, which enclosed the engagement ring, followed by the key.[3] Starr finished in fourth place in the public vote and did not progress to the final.

In September 2010, he then performed on the 4th season of the German version of the show. He placed third in the semi-finals and advanced to the final. He finished in 7th place.[4][5]

In October 2011, he appeared on series 2 of the Czech-Slovak version of the show where he progressed to the final.

Italia's Got Talent

In October 2013, Starr appeared on series 4 of the Italian version of the show where he progressed to the semi-finals.

In January 2015, he appeared on series 9 of the French version of the show where progressed to the final. He finished in 4th place.

America's Got Talent

Audition

In June 2015, He appeared as a season 10 contestant on NBC's America's Got Talent. His audition consisted of swallowing four numbered coins. He then "regurgitated" them on demand, first a single coin and then two coins at once. He then swallowed a light bulb, regurgitated the last coin, and then released the light bulb. He soon swallowed powdered sugar, drank a glass of water and gurgled it in his mouth, and finally regurgitated the still dry sugar onto a plate that host Nick Cannon was holding. Howard Stern, Heidi Klum, Mel B, and Howie Mandel all voted "Yes," sending Stevie to the Judge Cuts Week round.

Judge Cuts Week

In August 2015, during Judge Cuts Week 4, Starr swallowed a tiny tomato, then a razor blade. He then vowed to use his stomach muscles to cut the tomato into two halves, and then regurgitate it back up, blade and all. He then swallowed some dollar coins, each marked with a letter, and based on the order picked by the judges, was able to bring each one back up correctly. To retrieve the last letter coin, he successfully used a chip clip. He received praise from all the judges, except for special guest judge Piers Morgan, whom he had previously met on the show's British counterpart. At the end of the episode, Starr found out he was one of the seven acts who made it through to the live shows at Radio City Music Hall.

Quarterfinal Round

Live from Radio City Music Hall on 25 August 2015, Starr took Klum's borrowed ring worth a half a million dollars and swallowed it. He then swallowed a lock and the lock's key. He used his stomach to unlock the lock with the key, put the ring in the lock, lock the lock, and regurgitated the lock with Heidi's ring around it. He then swallowed a pool ball which allowed the key to float up so that Heidi could unlock the lock and he later regurgitated the pool ball. He advanced to the semi-finals.

Semifinal Round

On 8 September 2015, for his semifinal round, Starr's act consisted of swallowing smoke from two cups, swallowing liquid soap, and water to blow bubbles. He then exhaled half of the smoke into a large bubble. He then swallowed and regurgitated a raw egg. Howard, Heidi, Mel B, and Howie all gave him standing ovations. He advanced to the final round.

Finale

Starr qualified for the finale of season 10, as one of the remaining ten acts. He began by swallowing five thumbtacks and a magnet and regurgitating them with four of the thumbtacks attached to the magnet as requested (the fifth came out afterwards, not connected to the magnet). He then swallowed gas and blew it onto a live flame, thus creating fire in the air. For the ending, he released the gas into a soap bubble and lit it on fire while still holding onto it to make it explode. 'Do Not Attempt' warnings can be found multiple times throughout this performance, more persistently than before.

Starr placed 4th overall.

Personal life

In 2007, Starr met his maternal half-sister and her family for the first time in Scotland. Since their first encounter, they have remained in touch with one another.[citation needed] His mother passed away before they could ever meet.
