The Pinery is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 10,517 at the 2010 census,[2] up from 7,253 at the 2000 census.

Geography

The Pinery is located in northeastern Douglas County at Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'strict' not found. (39.444596, -104.742604).[3] It is bordered to the north by the town of Parker and to the southwest by the town of Castle Rock, the Douglas County seat. Colorado State Highway 83 runs through the center of the CDP, leading north 4 miles (6 km) to the center of Parker and south 4 miles to Franktown. The center of Castle Rock is 11 miles (18 km) to the south and west via Franktown.

According to the United States Census Bureau, The Pinery CDP has a total area of 10.4 square miles (26.9 km2), of which 0.04 square miles (0.1 km2), or 0.36%, is water.[2]

As of the census[5] of 2000, there were 7,253 people, 2,363 households, and 2,133 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 905.2 people per square mile (349.6/km²). There were 2,406 housing units at an average density of 300.3 per square mile (116.0/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 96.70% White, 0.94% Asian, 0.39% Native American, 0.34% Black, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 0.44% from other races, 1.10% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.14% of the population.

There were 2,363 households out of which 49.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 84.8% were married couples living together, 3.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 9.7% were non-families. 7.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 1.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.07 and the average family size was 3.23.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 31.4% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 26.1% from 25 to 44, 32.9% from 45 to 64, and 4.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 101.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.1 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $105,187, and the median income for a family was $108,256. Males had a median income of $79,255 versus $42,835 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $43,065. About 0.4% of families and 0.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including none of those under age 18 and 1.1% of those age 65 or over.
