Welcome!

Welcome to Infogalactic: the planetary knowledge core! We hope you will contribute much and well. You will probably want to read the [Help:Contents help pages]. Again, welcome and have fun! Crew (talk) 00:15, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

E-mail

Also, can you send email to crew@infogalactic.com. We don't have an email address for you. -- (Crew (talk) 03:15, 9 October 2016 (UTC))

Turns out we do have an email.

I received your gracious e-mail. Unfortunately, Barracuda bounced my reply. -- Viking (talk) 05:48, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

Hmmm, dunno why. I will try through the MediaWiki mailing system. (Crew (talk) 14:13, 9 October 2016 (UTC))

I received your follow-up e-mail. Unfortunately, Barracuda bounced my reply again. I suspect that Barracuda either does not like my e-mail provider, or does not like that my e-mail provider is not my last-mile internet provider. White-listing in Barracuda might fix the problem. -- Viking (talk) 16:23, 9 October 2016 (UTC)

Change to the sandbox

What was the change you made that broke the links? :-)

(Crew (talk) 13:41, 11 October 2016 (UTC))

In the sandbox, I changed the Template:BLP/sandbox links from the "Wikipedia" namespace to the "Infogalactic" namespace: http://www.infogalactic.com/w/index.php?title=Template%3ABLP%2Fsandbox&action=historysubmit&type=revision&diff=723278046&oldid=1127483

Due to another problem that is already on the bug list (#2.17), the pages being linked to had not yet been imported from Wikipedia: http://www.infogalactic.com/info/Infogalactic:Bug_list_for_editors#Most_of_the_Wikipedia:_namespace_pages_did_not_come_across

I therefore reverted the change in the sandbox: http://www.infogalactic.com/w/index.php?title=Template%3ABLP%2Fsandbox&type=revision&diff=723278047&oldid=723278046

How do new editors practice formatting without making an experimental page public?

I was playing around with formatting on a new page under my user page, which Viking (correctly) deleted because it was generally visible. Where then can I create a sandbox, or in some other way edit a page that cannot be seen by others? I hope to become good at Wiki markup, but I need someplace to practice. Thanks! On both Wikipedia and InfoGalactic, user sandbox pages are publicly visible. Changes appear in "Recent changes", just like "regular" pages. The trick to making sandbox pages is to make sure that you start with the URL of your User page, and do not accidentally delete the User:Username part of the URL.
