W. R. Berkley Corporation (NYSE: WRB) is a Fortune 500 company founded in 1967, and based in Greenwich, Connecticut, United States.

W. R. Berkley Corporation is a commercial lines property & casualty insurance holding company. In 2012, W. R. Berkley's total revenue was $5.82 Billion, of which $3.94 Billion came from the company's Insurance-Domestic segment, $678 Million from Insurance-International segment and $732 Million from Reinsurance-Global segment.[7]

Overview

W. R. Berkley Corporation operates in the following segments of the property casualty insurance business:

  • Insurance-Domestic, including excess and surplus lines and admitted lines, throughout the United States;
  • Insurance-International, insurance business conducted primarily in the United Kingdom, Continental Europe, South America, Canada, Scandinavia and Australia; and
  • Reinsurance-Global, on a facultative and treaty basis, primarily in the United States, United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and the Asia Pacific Region.[8]

The corporation consists of 51 operating units, 44 have been organized and developed internally and seven have been added through acquisition. Of these units, 26 have been formed since 2006.[9]

Management

W. R. Berkley Corporation was founded by William R. Berkley who currently serves as Executive Chairman. Mr. Berkley's son, W. Robert Berkley, Jr., 39 in 2014, holds the position of Chief Executive Officer and President.[10]
