«Հայաստանի Հանրապետության պետական զինանշանի մասին» օրենքն ընդունվել է <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supreme_Soviet" class="extiw" title="en:Supreme Soviet">Գերագույն Խորհրդի</a> կողմից 1992 թ. ապրիլի 19-ին:
Վերականգնվել է Հայաստանի Առաջին Հանրապետության /1918-1920 թթ./ զինանշանը, որի հեղինակներն են ճարտարապետ, Ռուսաստանի գեղարվեստի ակադեմիայի ակադեմիկոս Ալեքսանդր Թամանյանը և նկարիչ Հակոբ Կոջոյանը:
2005թ. նոյեմբերի 27-ի ՀՀ Սահմանադրության բարեփոխումներից հետո, 2006 թվականի հունիսի 15-ին ընդունվել է «ՀՀ զինանշանի մասին» նոր օրենքը։ Հայաստանի Հանրապետության զինանշանը Հայաստանի Հանրապետության պետական խորհրդանիշներից է։ Հայաստանի Հանրապետության զինանշանն է՝ կենտրոնում՝ վահանի վրա պատկերված են <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Mount_Ararat" title="Mount Ararat">Արարատ լեռը՝</a> <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Noah%27s_Ark_in_heraldry" title="Category:Noah's Ark in heraldry">Նոյյան տապանով</a> և պատմական Հայաստանի թագավորություններից չորսի՝ վերևից ձախ՝ <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bagratuni_flag.svg" title="File:Bagratuni flag.svg">Բագրատունիների</a>, վերևից աջ՝ <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Arshakuni.svg" title="File:Arshakuni.svg">Արշակունիների</a>, ներքևից ձախ՝ Արտաշիսյանների, ներքևից աջ՝ <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubenids" class="extiw" title="en:Rubenids">Ռուբինյանների</a> զինանշանները։ Վահանը պահում են <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Eagles_in_supporters" title="Category:Eagles in supporters">արծիվը</a> (ձախից) և <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Lions_in_supporters" title="Category:Lions in supporters">առյուծը</a> (աջից), իսկ վահանից ներքև պատկերված են սուր, ճյուղ, հասկերի խուրձ, շղթա և ժապավեն։ Հայաստանի Հանրապետության զինանշանի հիմնական գույնն է ոսկեգույնը, պատմական Հայաստանի թագավորություններինը՝ վերևից ձախ՝ <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Gules_(heraldry)" title="Category:Gules (heraldry)">կարմիր</a>, վերևից աջ՝ <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Azure_(heraldry)" title="Category:Azure (heraldry)">կապույտ</a>, ներքևից ձախ՝ կապույտ, ներքևից աջ՝ կարմիր և կենտրոնում՝ վահանի վրա պատկերված Արարատ լեռը՝ <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Orange_(heraldry)" title="Category:Orange (heraldry)">նարնջագույն</a>։ Նշված գույները խորհրդանշում են <a href="//commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Flag_of_Armenia.svg" title="File:Flag of Armenia.svg">Հայաստանի Հանրապետության դրոշի</a> գույները։ <a rel="nofollow" class="external autonumber" href="http://www.gov.am/am/official/">[1]</a>
