The 2021 United States presidential inauguration will take place on Wednesday, January 20, 2021. The event will be the 59th presidential inauguration. The winner of the 2020 United States presidential election will take the oath of office as president on that day, and the winning ticket's running mate will take the oath of office as vice president. Festivities might be limited due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.[1]
Preparation
In June 2020, both houses of Congress appointed a Joint Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies[2] to oversee construction of the platform and other temporary structures that will be necessary for the ceremonies and celebrations.
The Capitol Police Board has restricted public access to the West Front of the U.S. Capitol Building from September 7, 2020 to February 28, 2021 to "allow for the safe and secure construction of the Inaugural platform, stands, and other infrastructure necessary to support the event."[3]
