Service
The 97th Pennsylvania Infantry was organized at West Chester, Pennsylvania beginning August 22, 1861 and mustered in October 28, 1861 for a three-year enlistment.
The regiment was attached to the Department of Virginia to December 1861. The regiment lost a total of 322 men during service; 6 officers and 130 enlisted men killed or mortally wounded, 2 officers and 184 enlisted men died of disease.
