Road network

The A157 is an A-road in Lincolnshire, England. It runs between Wragby and Maltby le Marsh and is single carriageway for its entire length (approximately 26 miles (42 km)).

Route (Wragby to Maltby-le-Marsh)

The route starts in Wragby, at the junction of the A158 Lincoln to Skegness road (Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'strict' not found.). It passes through the villages of West Barkwith, East Barkwith, Hainton, Burgh-on-Bain and Welton le Wold, to a junction with the A16 Louth bypass.

The route then either disappears or runs with the A16 along the bypass southwards to Kenwick Top and the junction with the B1502. At that point, the A16 continues south towards Boston, and the A157 continues east, past the entrance to Kenwick Park. At the next roundabout (the junction with B1200 Louth to Saltfleetby road) the route heads southeasterly, passing through Legbourne, North Reston, South Reston and Withern, before ending in Maltby le Marsh at the junction with the A1104 Ulceby Cross to Mablethorpe road (Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module 'strict' not found.).

Old routes

The Newnes 1927 atlas shows the A157 as starting in Lincoln, and taking the course of what is now the A158 to Wragby, before terminating at Louth. The present course from Louth to Maltby is listed as being the B1196.

Until the opening of the Louth bypass in 1991, the A157 went through the centre of Louth, along the current route of the B1200 (Westgate, Edward Street, South Street, Newmarket and Legbourne Road.)

Attractions

Between Hainton and Burgh-on-Bain, the road passes close by the Belmont transmitter, the tallest structure in the European Union.
