The Acadia Students' Union represents the undergraduate students at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Canada. They are a member of the Canadian Alliance of Students Associations (CASA) and StudentsNS (formerly ANSSA).

Governance

The ASU is governed by the Students' Representative Council (SRC), although day-to-day workings of the Union are handled by the Executive Board. Representatives for the SRC, Executive Board, and the Chair's Office are elected/appointed between February and March each year, with the exception of 4 Councillors-at-Large which are filled during the September by-election.

The SRC

The Students' Representative Council (SRC) is the governing body of the Acadia Students' Union. As such it the legislative authority of the organization and its powers are governed by the ASU Constitution and By-Laws. The SRC is made up of 18 elected and appointed members from areas of the Acadia Community.

The Chair

The Chair's office consists of the Chairperson of the SRC, the Deputy Chairperson, and the Administrative Assistant. The Chair's office and more specifically the Chairperson, is responsible for presiding over all meetings of the SRC, interpreting the constitution, and ensuring that all elections are carried out in a manner that is consistent with the Constitution and By-Laws. The Chairperson also chairs the Review Board, which handles constitutional issues within the Union.

The Executive Board

In the 2005-2006 Academic Year, the SRC passed a resolution reducing the executive from 6 people to 5 people. In 2011 the SRC passed the recommendations of a governance review that resulted in the Executive structure being redefined. The 5 positions are President (Callie Lathem), Vice President Communications (Suzanne Gray), Vice President Programming (Chelsey Spinney), Vice President Academic (Liam Murphy), and Vice President Finance (Jalen Sabean). All positions are elected in the February General Election except for the Vice President Finance, who is appointed due to the technical requirements of the position.

Student Association Memberships

The ASU is an active member of the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations (CASA) and StudentsNS formerly the Alliance of Nova Scotia Student Associations). For 2012/2013, Kyle Power (Vice President Academic) is the Chair of StudentsNS.
