Addison Trail High School (ATHS) is a public four-year high school in DuPage County, located approximately half a mile east of Interstate 355 at the intersection of Army Trail Road and Lombard Road in Addison, Illinois, a western suburb of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. It is part of DuPage High School District 88 (originally Addison District #4),[9] which also includes Willowbrook High School. Addison Trail draws its students from Addison and unincorporated areas adjacent to Lombard and Wood Dale.

History

Addison Trail opened in 1966.[citation needed] During construction circa 1961, it was named Army Trail High School,[9] after the street that is situated on.[10] The students that attended Addison Trail the year it opened were mostly transfers from York Community High School and Willowbrook High School, Addison Trail's sister school.[citation needed]

Academics

In 2008, Addison Trail had an average composite ACT score of 25.5 and graduated 98.5% of its senior class.[4] Addison Trail has met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) on the Prairie State Achievement Examination, which with the ACT, comprise the assessments used to fulfill the mandates of the federal No Child Left Behind Act.[4] The school as a whole exceeded expectations in reading, and three of the four students subgroups met the expectations in both mathematics and reading.[4]

In 2009, Newsweek, using the Challenge Index, ranked Addison Trail #491 in its list of the top 1,500 public high schools in America.[11]

Athletics

Addison Trail competes in the West Suburban Conference. The school is a member of the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) which governs most sports and competitive activities in the state. Addison Trail's teams are stylized as the Blazers.

The school sponsors interscholastic teams for young men and women in: basketball, cross country, golf, gymnastics, soccer, swimming & diving; tennis, track & field, and volleyball. Young men may also compete in baseball, football, and wrestling, while young women may compete in badminton, bowling, cheerleading, and softball.[12]

The following teams finished in the top four of their respective IHSA sponsored state championship tournament or meet.[13]
