Agathonice

Agathonice was an Ancient city and bishopric in Roman Thrace, which remains a Latin Catholic titular see.
Its modern location is presumed to be Palicastro or Belatitsa (in Bulgaria?).
History
Agathonice was important enough in the Late Roman province of Thracia to be a suffragan bishopric of its capital Philippopolis in Thracia's Metropolitan Archbhishop (in modern Plovdiv), but was to fade.
Titular
The diocese was nominally restored as a Latin Catholic titular bishopric in the 18th century.
It is vacant sincedecdes, having had only the following, non-consecutive incumbents, all of the lowest (episcopal) rank :
- Ferdinand Oesterhoff, Cistercians (O. Cist.) (1723.12.20 – 1748.10.22)
- John Baptist Lamy (1850.07.23 – 1853.07.29) (later Archbishop)
