Alaurentia

The ancient continent of Laurentia.

Alaurentia is a community based on the ancient North American Craton, also called Laurentia, after which the name Alaurentia was inspired. The community exists independently of any other political movements, and even has its own community currency.

Official Goals

The community currently lists 9 goals in its official "Code and Rules" :

- to provide for a society where actions are taken in harmony with nature and the environment, where decisions are taken with the biosphere's survival and prosperity in consideration;

- to protect local species, save them from extinction, and care for them as they are fellow members of the house that we inhabit and call "Laurentia";

- to avoid methods that pollute or degrade the environment, including the outside environments that are directly affected by ours;

- to be self-sufficient, in a way that we may all feed ourselves, clothe ourselves, shelter ourselves, and even possibly make our own green energy;

- to encourage local exchange and trade, to exchange items and services between members, as opposed to being dependent on foreign entities;

- to provide for a society where poverty is directly addressed;

- to provide for a society where science, technological advancements and discoveries are in alignment with wisdom, knowledge and skills of our ancestors;

- to protect the wide variety of cultures and expressions of the people that inhabit Laurentia, including local traditions and indigenous civilizations;

- to provide for a sanctuary where members are respectful, mutually supportive, and at peace with one another - causing the local dissolution of misery and wars, and becoming a beacon for other civilizations to follow.

Structure

According to the Code and Rules, Alaurentia is lead by a Presidency, which is composed of the President and of members appointed by the President to help managing the community. This Presidency is tasked with executing members decisions called "motions". A motion may be passed if more than half of the members vote in favor. An exception to this are motions regarding amendments to the Code and Rules. Motions regarding amendments must gain support from more than 2/3 of the members.

In this sense, Alaurentia could be considered a democracy.

Alaurentian Coin

The online community has implemented its own virtual currency, the Alaurentian Coin (or rentiacoin), which members can use and exchange with one another. The Alaurentian Coin's symbol is ᗗ, or an "A" (representing "Alaurentia") with a vertical strike (indicator of a currency, see for instance the dollar sign $) across it.

The Alaurentian Coin has no official value. Instead, members attribute a value to it. There are currently exactly 1 million Alaurentian Coins across the online community, and the smallest denomination is 0.01 of a Coin.

Taking Bitcoin as a reference point: the value of a Bitcoin was evaluated at over 3,840 US Dollars in mid-March 2019. There are 21 million Bitcoins in total. A naive estimate could place the Alaurentian Coin's value at 1/21th of a Bitcoin, that is, about 180 USD. However the matter is complicated by the fact that Alaurentian Coins are not mined - they have already been created, to avoid the impact that cryptocurrency mining has on the environment. Therefore the value of the Alaurentian Coin could probably be considered inferior to the figure above, but superior to the USD nonetheless.

This is somewhat consistent with the March 2019 Rentiacoin Challenge, in which a prize of 0.07 Alaurentian Coin has been associated to a Canadian 10 Dollars bill. Which could imply a value of 142.85 CAD for 1.00 rentiacoin, which would evaluate to about 107.00 USD. (March 2019 figures)

On the 3rd of April 2019, the Alaurentian Coin became adopted by other model nations, and its name was changed to AlliCoin (pronounced similarly to Alicorn).

Symbols

The community of Alaurentia has developed its own flag - seven stars on a white background, with two green wings, and surrounded with two blue bands.

The official language is English, though French seems to be also considered an important language.

The official emblem of the community is the Canada Goose.

According to the Code and Rules, the Canada Goose is "representing perseverance as it flies great distances, friendship and mutual support as it often migrate as massive groups so to minimize individual efforts, intelligence as it foretells the coming winters or summers, and ability to adapt as it can live on both land and waters."
