Alexandria Township is a township in Douglas County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 4,760 at the 2000 census.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 29.2 square miles (76 km2), of which 24.6 square miles (64 km2) of it is land and 4.6 square miles (12 km2) of it (15.71%) is water.
Demographics
As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 4,760 people, 1,764 households, and 1,393 families residing in the township. The population density was 193.3 people per square mile (74.6/km²). There were 2,044 housing units at an average density of 83.0/sq mi (32.1/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.36% White, 0.17% African American, 0.27% Native American, 0.36% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.21% from other races, and 0.61% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.55% of the population.
There were 1,764 households out of which 36.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 71.9% were married couples living together, 5.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.0% were non-families. 16.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 2.99.
In the township the population was spread out with 26.7% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 26.7% from 25 to 44, 25.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 101.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.1 males.
