Alfred Pernice
Lothar Anton Alfred Pernice (18 August 1841 – 23 September 1901) was a German professor of Roman law.
Biography
Pernice was born in Halle in 1841. He studied philology and law in Halle, Göttingen and Tübingen. In 1862, he received his doctorate in Halle and in 1863 his doctorate in law. After participating in the German War of 1866, he habilitated in Halle in 1867 as a Privatdozent and became an associate professor of Roman law there in 1870 and a full professor in 1871. In the same year he went to Greifswald in the same capacity, in 1877 again to Halle and finally in 1881 to Berlin, where he became a full member of the Academy of Sciences in 1884.
Pernice died in Berlin in 1901 at the age of 60. His grave is located in the Old Twelve Apostles Churchyard in Schöneberg. The two-axis wall tomb made of sandstone with a triangular pediment is dominated by a raised cross with rays emanating from its center.[1]
