Aliya-Jasmine "AJ" Sovani is a television broadcaster and producer recognized for her significant documentary work and environmental journalism, while also hosting shows for mainstream networks[1] currently living in Los Angeles California,[2] she is currently working as a Host & Producer for various NBC networks.[3] She was the 2012 face of the NFL's women's apparel campaign[4] launched by VOGUE magazine and photographed by legendary photographer Patrick Demarchelier in New York City's meat packing district.[5] She recently collaborated with the CFL to design a women's sweatshirt for the 2014 Grey Cup.[6][7]

Over the last decade of her TV career she was a reporter at the Vancouver Winter Olympics for CTV's Olympic Morning Show,[8] was on the ground in Haiti after the devastating earthquake alongside actor Jared Leto for the Discovery channel,[9][10] was an NHL playoffs reporter for the Stanley Cup countdown,[11] and hosted the ESPYS red carpet with Cabbie on TSN.[12] She is best known for having produced & hosted her on Sports/PopCulture series on MTV called "PLAY with AJ".[13] She also anchored MTV News and hosted the talk show 1 Girl 5 Gays (a.k.a. "1g5g") on MTV (Canada) and Logo (TV channel) in the USA.[14] Sovani was born on November 18, 1982, in Ottawa; she is of Persian and African-Indian descent.[15]

Before working at MTV, Sovani was a producer at MuchMusic, and has worked in front of and behind the camera at BPM:TV,[16] Star!, and FashionTelevision as well as a freelance writer and professional speaker. She also worked as the Whistler Reporter for CTV's Olympic Morning show during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada.[17]

Aliya-Jasmine received international praise including CNN, The View,[18] Jay Leno, The Huffington Post,[19] and Good Morning America for a breast cancer awareness video she wrote, and directed that went viral called "Save the Boobs".[20]

In addition to working on a Gemini Award-winning show,[21] and interviewing everyone from Tom Cruise to Mötley Crüe, her favorite experience thus far was traveling to Africa for a documentary on girls' rights in Sudan called "Girls of Latitude".,[22] and the documentary she produced "Pipeline Wars" about saving the Great Bear Rainforest,[23] which contributed significantly to public sentiment and created presser that has recently led to new environmental policy laws introduced by the latest federal government in Canada. In 2010 she was selected as one of HELLO! Magazine's 50 most beautiful Canadians,[24] and the National Post newspaper's Worthy-30 to watch lists.[25]

She has her Social Media & Digital Marketing certificate from Harvard University,[26] and her BA degree in Broadcast Communications from the University of Ottawa.[27] In 2015 she received the Alumni of Exceptional Achievement award from her alma matter, and her face is displayed on a flag on the school campus serving as inspiration to current students to carve their own paths with the slogan "defy the conventional" [28]
