The Anachronauts are group of fictional warriors existing in the Marvel Universe that serve Kang the Conqueror as his personal guard. The Anachronauts were brought together by Kang, after having bested each of them in personal combat and extracting their allegiance to him. They are from various eras and alternate realities that Kang has visited in his journeys. They first appeared in Fantastic Four Annual #25 (1992).

History

When the Avengers and Fantastic Four brought Kang's former love Ravonna to Chronopolis, Kang dispatched the Anachronauts to deal with them, and they won the battle due to the Avengers surrendering. Kang was wounded in battle by Thor and Ravonna took his place to rule Chronopolis, thus gaining control of the Anachronauts.[volume & issue needed]

When the time-travelling Incinerator robots of the Time Variance Authority (TVA) attempted to steal the Starstone from which the Ebony Blade was carved, the Anachronauts and Ravonna teamed with the TVA's Professor Alphonse Gamble to recover the Starstone before a temporal paradox could form.[volume & issue needed]

Later, Kang's counterpart Immortus assumed Kang's form and tricked several members of the Anachronauts into assisting him in a plot to occupy the Avengers' attention. Immortus brainwashed Iron Man (Tony Stark) to serve as his assassin. The Anachronaut Apocryphus stood guard over a temporal weapon in Vietnam, but was defeated by members of Force Works. After the Avengers were close to revealing Iron Man's involvement, Deathunt 9000 was sent to deal with War Machine, the Black Widow, Hawkeye, and the U.S. Agent, but War Machine defeated him.[volume & issue needed]

After this, Kang reasserted control over Chronopolis and the Anachronauts, but he soon faced an attack by Immortus' forces. Most of the remaining Anachronauts were struck by time-twisting technology and reduced to temporal shadows. Chronopolis was destroyed soon after by Immortus. Currently, it remains unclear whether any of the Anachronauts are truly deceased, given Kang's abilities.[volume & issue needed]
